Massage was invented centuries ago. Massage is one of the best known remedies to relieve stress, as well as pain. Reducing stress increases and balances your energy and reduces pain. When you are in pain, or your movements are restricted, you are unable to enjoy your body and your life the way you like to. Every day stress, repetitive movements on the job, household accidents and sports injuries can cause temporary or even, when untreated, permanent problems in your muscles. Tight muscles tend to restrict blood flow and are more prone to injury. Muscles can become so contracted that they press on nerves in arms, hands, legs and/or neck. This will give you a feeling of pain, tingling or numbness in the area of the pressed nerve. Our therapists are trained in Swedish, therapeutic, deep tissue, and sports massage.

Manual Osteopathic Therapy (MOT) is a form of therapy that focuses on the assessment and treatment of imbalances in the structure and function of the body. This can be through the musculoskeletal system, the nervous system, or the organ systems. MOT's will use their hands to make subtle and gentle adjustments to joints, organs, and other structures in order to bring the body back into alignment. When the structure is in alignment and able to move freely, there can be normal fluid flow, which allows for improved function and movement. By providing thorough assessment and treatment, MOT's can help promote the body's ability to heal itself.

Please note, Dr. Sam Augér is no longer accepting new Manual Osteopathy patients. Thank you.

Please note that many extended health benefits cover manual Osteopathic therapy services but Canada Life, Industrial Alliance, and Alberta Blue Cross do not cover our service.

A shockwave is an intense, but very short energy wave travelling faster than the speed of sound. This shockwave is generated when compressed air (or an electromagnetic field) is used to fire a projectile within a guiding tube that strikes a metal applicator placed on the patient’s skin and the energy impulse is transmitted to the tissue. The projectile generates stress waves in the applicator that transmit acoustic pressure waves (radial shock waves) that propagate non-invasively into tissue, with no side effects. These pulses create micro-cavitation bubbles that expand and burst, and the force created by these bubbles penetrates tissue and stimulates cells in the body that are responsible for bone and connective tissue healing. Shockwave treatments have been used to treat various diseases of the musculoskeletal system and other soft tissue disorders, promoting accelerated recovery through encouragement of self-healing processes.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping is an ancient technique, used in many cultures, in which a special cup is applied to the skin and held in place by suction. The suction draws superficial tissue into the cup, which may either be left in place or moved along the body. Cupping brings fresh blood to the area and helps improve circulation.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), sometimes called manual lymphatic therapy, uses light touch to move excess lymph and fluid out of the tissues and back into the lymphatic vessels. Although often referred to as a type of massage, MLD is very different from traditional forms of massage that rely on deep and rigorous rubbing.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a non-invasive treatment in which pressure is applied to reflex points on feet, hands or ears, although we specialize in foot reflexology. Stimulating these reflex points helps promote relaxation, improves circulation, stimulates vital organs and encourages the body's natural healing processes. Most people find reflexology to be very relaxing.

Many women in late pregnancy experience sciatic nerve pain as the uterus rests on the pelvic floor and lower back, causing tension to the muscles and putting pressure on nearby nerves. Massage therapy addresses the inflamed nerves by helping to release tension on the nearby muscles.
Pregnancy cushions or pillows are used to support the mother during the massage.
Consult with your primary care practitioner if you have any concerns.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is best for people who have muscle pain and tension or who simply want to relax.
This type of therapeutic massage is similar to a Swedish massage, only the massage therapist uses heated stones in lieu of or in addition to their hands.

Acupressure and Meridian Massage

Acupressure and meridian massage are used to address a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional concerns. They are believed to support the body in healing itself by improving energy flow, promoting relaxation, reducing pain and tension, enhancing the immune system, and facilitating emotional well-being.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle hands-on technique that uses a light touch to examine the
membranes and movement of the fluids in and around the central nervous system. Relieving
tension in the central nervous system promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and
boosting health and immunity.
